The Empire’s Hyprocritical Politics

It would be dishonest of me to remain silent after hearing the speech Obama delivered on the afternoon of May 23 at the Cuban American National Foundation created by Ronald Reagan. I listened to his speech, as I did McCain’s and Bush’s. I feel no resentment towards him, for he is not responsible for the crimes perpetrated against Cuba and humanity. Were I to defend him, I would do his adversaries an enormous favor. I have therefore no reservations about criticizing him and about expressing my points of view on his words frankly.

Condolence Message from the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba

CENTRAL DE TRABAJADORES DE CUBA

WORKER’S CENTRAL UNION OF CUBA

CENTRALE DES TRAVAILLEURS DE CUBA

Cro. Elmer Labog

President

KMU

Dear President:

We have received, with great sorrow, the news of the death of the beloved comrade and friend Crispin Beltrán who dedicated his life to defend and represent the interests of the Philipine workers in a long struggle since 1955 which carried him to gain the prestige and respect of the workers and union leaders not only in his own country but also at international level.

Ka Bel, as the workers used to call him and all those that knew him affectionately, founded KMU and was his President until 2003, during that whole stage and later, we could count with his support and solidarity with the people and the Cuban workers, especially in the anti-imperialist struggle and against the unfair and criminal North American blockade imposed against Cuba for more than 45 years.

Ka Bel was and is an example of tenacity, total devotion to the proletarian cause, consecrated militant and indefatigable fighter, unconditional friend and faithful revolutionary to his cause, in all the latitudes.

The Workers’ Central Union of Cuba, on behalf of all Cuban workers, conveys our most sincere and deep condolences to his relatives, friends, to the KMU and all the Philipine workers for the loss of a beloved brother with the conviction that his example and spirit of struggle will continue alive among all of us.

In Solidarity,

5th European Union – Latin America and the Caribbean Summit

May 2008

Your Excellency,

At the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro 16 years ago, Fidel Castro uttered a prophetic warning, stating that “an important biological species is at risk of disappearing as a result of the rapid and progressive destruction of its natural living conditions: humanity”. Time has proven him right.

Your Excellency,

Poverty, inequality and exclusion are the offspring of a world order based on greed and selfishness. Only solidarity and justice, within our societies and between countries, can lead to the inclusion of peoples in a just order.
