HE didn’t even expect to be a delegate to the 6th Party Congress. Doubting that he deserved so many tributes, he considered it an honor awarded him by Communist Party members in Santiago.
• THE 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba has concentrated its efforts on an analysis of the Economic and Social Policy Draft Guidelines for the Party and the Revolution, conscious of their decisive importance for the future of the homeland.
• Speech presented by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee Raúl Castro Ruz, in the Convention Center, April 19, 2011, Year 53 of the Revolution
Dear compañeras and compañeros:
• We are approaching the close of the Congress, following intense days in which Cuban communists have discussed and approved the Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, the Central Report and various resolutions concerning the main points under consideration.
IN the presence of General of the Army Raúl Castro, the military review and popular parade marking the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist nature of the Cuban Revolution and the military victory of the Bay of Pigs is underway.
The event with which Cuba is celebrating its half century of socialism opened with a salute to the participating troops by Army Corps General Alvaro López Miera, deputy minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).
Children, young people and veterans took part in a symbolic enactment recalling historical achievements of the Cuban people, preceding the review of FAR troops and combat weapons
The event ends with a march by tens of thousands of young people, symbols of the new generations of Cubans and a guarantee of the continuity of the Revolution.
Delegates to the 6th Congress of the Communists Party of Cuba, which begins this Saturday in the capital’s International Conference Center, are present at the parade.
