Havana, 23 oct (acn) – Cuba is assembling seven experimental photovoltaic stations as part of its strategy to boost the use of renewable energy sources.
Aleisly Valdés Viera, director of Renweable Energy from the Electric Union Enterprise (UNE), told ACN that these facilities will add 10 megawatts in contribution of the National Energy System (SEN, by its Spanish acronym).
Many of these stations, still under construction, are producing electricity and have already been synchronized with some units – Guantánamo´s (Santa Teresa-Los Güiros), Camagüey´s (Guáimaro), Villa Clara´s (Santa Clara) and Cienfuegos´ (Cantarrana)– to the SEN.
Santiago de Cuba, the Isle of Youth and Havana provinces are also included in this investment program that aims at decreasing the use of fossil fuels and protecting the environment, said Valdés Viera.
This is a preparation stage for better use of the sun, once the policy for the sector of renewable energy has been approved.
