HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 20 (acn) Cuba has a very good team of experts with wide knowledge on the housing sector, asserted on Thursday in this capital Claudio Acioly, of the United Nations Program for Human Settlements (UN-HABITAT).
The island’s professionals have valuable information favoring the carrying out of analyses and predictions, which makes it possible to define strengths and weaknesses in the access of persons to an adequate house, commented the Brazilian specialist in statements to ACN.
He added that there’s governmental acknowledgement of that purpose and that, institutionally, measures are adopted to give more space to entities and individuals for the search of a plot of land and build with their own efforts.
The expert mentioned among the main difficulties the lack of transportation that limits greater and faster distribution of construction materials, dependence on imported consumables, and considerable increase of demand as compared to supply.
UN-HABITAT was one of the sponsors of a Workshop on the background of settlements in the archipelago, in coordination with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the National Housing Institute, that wound up on Thursday at the Tulipan Hotel.
