Young Artists Discuss on Social Movements at Casa de las Americas

Havana, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) The role of young artists in Latin American social movements focuses today attention of theoretical spaces in the “Casa Tomada 2013” event, to be end Friday, September 20, in this capital. The challenges to face the dominant media trends and cultural production come back to the limelight in this day of discussion, where exponents from different art disciplines are participating.

Meanwhile, the panel “Las metaforas del viaje: desplazamientos, migraciones y transculturaciones” (Metaphors of travel: displacement, migration, and transculturation) brings together specialists from Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Cuba, who pretend to give more information about a so widespread phenomenon in the region.

To close the day, the Mexican theater group “Vaca 35” will stage “Lo único que necesita una gran actriz es una gran obra y las ganas de triunfar” (All a great actress need is a great work and the desire to succeed), a collective creation based on “Las Buenas” (The Good), by French Jean Genet.

As part of the 3rd meeting of young artists and writers of Latin America and the Caribbean, about 60 guests from different countries are meeting in Havana, although the Cuban presence is predominant.

The event was held for the first time in 1983 at the Casa de las Americas in Havana. The idea was retaken in 2009 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of that institution.
