On the final day of the forum, presidents, prime ministers and other senior officials considered that action a part of Washington’s policy against the Cuban Revolution.

The inclusion of Cuba in the report by the U.S. State Department means that those on the list have to face strict penalties, and in Cuba’s case, it is aimed at justifying the permanence of the economic, financial and commercial blockade for more than five decades.

Many governments and institutions around the world expressed their disagreement with the report, published on May 30, 2013.

Bolivian President Evo Morales appreciated the continued solidarity from the Cuban Revolution, as an example to follow, and called for strengthening Latin American and Caribbean integration.

Only this way, our peoples can face the pressure from imperialism and advance towards economic, social, and political liberalization, Morales said.

Meanwhile, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega questioned the White House’s policy, saying that while they try to blame Cuba, those really responsible for terrorist acts against the Caribbean nation are still unpunished on U.S. soil.

The Sandinista leader recalled that five Cubans (Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez) were detained in the United States for monitoring violent activities against their country organized on U.S. territory.

The Five, as they are known internationally, are examples of the struggle against imperialism, said Ortega on Saturday night, at the closing session of the Summit.

According to the statesman, economic blockades and coups dâÖEtat are the weapons used by the expansionist empire to repress sovereign peoples.
