The use of renewable energy in remote rural communities and agricultural cooperatives in Cuba stands out in the exhibition of the 12th World Renewable Energy Conference, which ends today at the Havana’s Conference Center.
The 20-year work in the Environment folder of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cuba has several projects in cooperation with the island, particularly energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy sources, Enrique Dalmau, monitoring and knowledge management officer of that office, told Prensa Latina.
Among the issues are the photovoltaic use, hydro-energy, biogas, among others. A large number of implemented projects are to accompany the Cuban agriculture, he added.
The UNDP exhibition states that more than 3,600 Cuban families from remote rural communities located in the country’s several provinces get electricity by using renewable energy sources, which boost quality of life and promote sustainable social development.
The international event shows Cuba’s progresses in developing its renewable energy potential, as of the Cuban State will to bet on its use to safeguard the environment. / Source: PL.
