Paris, May 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba reiterated today before the Human Rights Council in Geneva its support for a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the crisis in Syria and rejected the calls for the use of force and violence. Speaking at an urgent debate on the issue in the 23rd ordinary session of the Council, Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez expressed her confidence in the ability of the Syrian people to resolve its internal problems without foreign interference.
The permanent representative of Cuba in Geneva condemned the tendency to overlook the proposals and actions of the Syrian government and ignore the efforts that some countries are carrying out to prevent further violence in the Arab nation.
Particularly alarming, she said, are the calls for a regime change in Syria and the use of force and violence, rather than contribute to dialogue and negotiation between all parties.
Cuba condemns the killing of innocent people wherever they occur and rejects the selective attribution of these events to one of the parties in accordance with the interests of some countries, said Rodriguez.
