Cuba to Host Debate on Gender and Communication

Havana, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban social communications organizations called the 10th Ibero-American Meeting on Gender and Communication, scheduled for March 2012.

According to the call, the event will bring together communication professionals and researchers to analyze communication products and their social representation of gender violence, sexuality and women´s human rights.

Studies on masculinity, new information and communication technologies, alternative media, advertising and other topics will be debated as well at the meeting.

Isabel Moya, a Cuban expert on gender and communication and the coordinator of the event, said the meeting is relevant in a world context in which the media tends to make women responsible for the violence against them.

The biannual event is sponsored by the Union of Journalists of Cuba, the Cuban Women’s Federation and the Cuban Association of Social Communicators.

Previous editions of the meeting have been attended by representatives of 23 countries from Latin America, Africa and Europe.
