More than 100 thousand Cuban first-graders joined the José Martí Pioneers School Children Organization today in honor of Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara on the 44th anniversary of his death in combat.
The children were presented with the blue handkerchiefs that are part of their school uniform in plazas, in streets, parks, and schools, and they sang the chant of school children that honors Che.
A ceremony was held in homage to Che in Bolivia, where he was killed during combat. The remains of the legendary fighter are kept in the Complejo Escultórico Memorial in Santa Clara province.
