AN entity born and bred with the Revolution, fruit of the initiative the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), commemorated its 50 years of existence this Tuesday with an event in the presence of Vice President Esteban Lazo Hernández.

“When the revolutionary government created ICAP on December 30, 1960, our heroic resistance was amazing the world.  The Revolution became a constant incitement to human curiosity in all corners of the earth,” affirmed Ricardo Alarcon, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power.

From that time the wall of silence collapsed and people began to come together from all over the world to share just one ideal: to divulge the truth about Cuba.

In that context, ICAP President Kenia Serrano stated that the international solidarity movement has grown stronger, with more than 2,000 organizations of friendship with Cuba in 152 countries.

During the event, ICAP 50th Anniversary of ICAP Distinctions were awarded to outstanding workers in the institution. Friends of Cuba who, from overseas, have resisted hostility and have not yielded to threats, were also honored.

“ICAP’s commitments today include condemning and confronting the blockade imposed by the United States, a country in which a number of solidarity brigades, like Pastors for Peace, are taking risks to break that policy of siege,” Serrano commented.
