For the 19th consecutive year, the UN Assembly will discuss a report presented by Cuba, “The necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.” The document was released on Wednesday in Havana by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and says the blockade is the main obstacle to the development of the country. The blockade has cost Cuba $751,363 million in the last 50 years, and that may be a conservative estimate, based on the depreciation of the dollar against gold, Rodriguez stated. He will attend the general debate at the UN from September 23 to 30. The minister emphasized that U.S. President Barack Obama had performed far below the expectations generated by his promises regarding Cuba and the U.S. blockade policy. The report presented by Cuba at the General Assembly will be voted on in October 26./ Prensa Latina
