CONFIRMATION of the results in the recent elections of delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power took place during an official event in which the Council of State was presented with a detailed report by the National Electoral Commission (CEN) on the 19th round of partial elections. The success of those commissions which, throughout the country, organized, directed and assessed progress, was also highlighted at the event.

osé Ramón Machado Ventura, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, and Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, presided over the official event in the Vitrales Salon of the Cuban Parliament, attended by CEN members and presidents of the commissions representing Cuba’s 14 provinces and the special municipality of the Isle of Youth.

Presenting the report which, minutes later, she handed over to Machado Ventura, CEN president Ana María Mari Machado stated that the predominant aspects of the electoral authorities’ performance were compliance with electoral ethics, constitutionality, impartiality and professionalism and transparency and veracity of information, highlighted by a massive turnout on the part of the population for the nomination procedures and subsequent voting.

During her speech, she identified the dissatisfactions that emerged from the CEN report, including the failure to increase the number of candidates nominated and other aspects related to the composition of those elected and commented, “We have to continue working to achieve a greater level of correspondence with the population for the next elections.”

Later, Machado Ventura conveyed a message of congratulations from President Raúl Castro to the CEN members present and to the thousands of participants who, at a variety of levels, led this task over several months. He also congratulated the great victor in this process – our people – for the resounding success achieved at a time when the country is experiencing a very particular situation.

Also present at the ceremony were Homero Acosta, secretary of the Council of State; María Esther Reus, minister of justice; Darío Delgado, attorney general of the Republic; and Rubén Remigio Ferro, president of the People’s Supreme Court, as well as other dignitaries from the Communist Party, state and government.
