THE José Martí Plaza de la Revolución will once again be the stage for the May Day Parade (May 1st), whose leaders will be Havana workers and their families, marching under the slogan “United in Duty.”

On the same day there will be similar marches and activities in municipal centers throughout the country, so that everyone in Cuba will simultaneously celebrate International Workers Day in mass activities in which popular initiative and the rational use of resources will predominate.

This information was provided by Salvador Valdés Mesa, member of the Political Bureau and general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Workers (CTC), during an event of recognition for workers from the press, attended by members of the CTC National Secretariat, editors of press agencies and many journalists linked to the organization and labor unions.

This significant day will be dedicated to efficient, productive, and dignified work, he explained. This is the 120th anniversary of May Day, which coincides with many important political, historical and social events: the 51st anniversary of the Revolution, the 71st of the CTC, and the 50th of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs). It also corresponds with the Communist Youth League (UJC) and the Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) Congresses.

The celebration of the principal parades and events that will take place in all work places from April 26-30, will provide an ideal occasion for millions of workers, the labor union movement, and all Cubans to reaffirm their support for measures adopted to counteract the effects of the global crisis and their unity with the Communist Party of Cuba, Fidel, and Raúl as irrefutable evidence of the will to build socialism in the face of media campaigns orchestrated against the Cuban Revolution by internal and foreign enemies.

May Day is also dedicated to giving impetus to economic plans and programs, the successful execution of Cuban elections, international solidarity, and the struggle for the liberation of the five Cuban heroes.

At the meeting, Angel Morffi, second secretary, read out a message of congratulations from the CTC to workers in the press, and Armando Delgado, member of the secretariat, reported on the organization’s tasks and priorities for the current year.
