Santiago prepares mass tribute at Almeida’s burial on Tuesday

THOUSANDS of people in Santiago will fill the streets of that heroic city tomorrow, Tuesday, to pay tribute to Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, during the procession to the mausoleum of the historic Third Eastern Front of the Rebel Army, where the military ceremony for his burial is to take place.

Lázaro Expósito, first secretary of the Communist Party in the province, said that the funeral cortege will leave Santiago’s military airport at 7 a.m. and, as it as it passes along the route, the people en masse will pay tribute to Comandante Almeida.

The procession will take in the city hall, where, on January 1, 1959, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro announced to the world the triumph of the Revolution; later, before moving on through other municipalities, it will pass cross the area of the former Moncada Garrison’s Post No. 3, now the 26th of July Educational Complex. After that, it will go to Cruce de los Baños.

After this tribute by the people, Almeida will be interred in a private ceremony on the crest of La Esperanza Hill, where the mausoleum stands. That hill is the final resting place for 40 combatants from the guerrilla detachment of the Third Front, founded on March 6, 1958.
