Popular leaders in Honduras detained and wounded

• General coordinator of the National Front against the Coup arrested and declares himself a political prisoner

TEGUCIGALPA, July 30.— Several leaders of the National Front against the Coup in Honduras were detained today during army and police repression of a peaceful popular demonstration.

Popular leaders in Honduras detained and woundedJuan Barahona, general coordinator of the National Front, confirmed to PL today by telephone that he had been arrested and brutally beaten by soldiers military and police who were persecuting the masses.

“They treated us brutally,” Barahona said. He also informed the press that approximately 80 people are still detained.

Barahona affirmed that they declared themselves political prisoners because they were attacked during a peaceful march in defense of the state of law that was broken by the military coup on June 28.

He stated that Carlos H. Reyes, labor leader and independent presidential candidate, received wounds to his ear and a fractured arm.
